Olsen, Shaw called up; Kruger, Monty on IR
Jan 04 2012 06:22 PM | JOVE23 in Transactions
The Blackhawks carousel of minor-league players continues, as defenseman Dylan Olsen and winger Andrew Shaw have been called up to play in the next contest against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Olsen was the team's first round choice in 2009 but this is his first full year playing for the Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate.
Shaw, who has been compared to Dan Carcillo and Adam Burish, was in the midst of a two-week contract negotiations with the organization when the call came to report to the show. In Rockford, Shaw has been a productive player, netting 12 goals and 21 points in 33 games this season.
Shaw is expected to play on a line with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp.

Ohhh shit... I guess we are going to be putting the glasses on Olsen any minute now for Grimson.
Glad to see Olsen get called up, don't know much about shaw

Long story short:
He reminds me of Carcillo. Short in stature, but very aggressive and scrappy. Seems that he has a bit more skill than many though as he's put up decent points in the AHL. He isn't afraid to drop the gloves, even if the guy he's fighting is a heavy weight (Fought Jared Tinordi in juniors). Is he a potential superstar? Highly unlikely. The fact Q has him on the first line is very intriguing to say the least.
I don't think so. He's trying to complete that line with some physicality. He also had Frolik there in practice.
Maybe there just adding them to the display for other NHL teams as the TDL approaches.
There is zero doubt that they are show casing talent for future deals prior to the TDL. With a proven player coming this way these teams are going to want good prospects and draft picks back.
Need too see them at this level, IE Morin, Smith, Hayes, now Olsen and Shaw.

Ha. I never disagreed on that point. I think the Hawks are doing their own evaluation as well.
I think they evaluate them in Rockford. I thing other NHL teams want to see them at the NHL level. Wonder how many scouts will be at the flyers game and Hawks games this weekend. I'd imagine quite a few.
Pre-emptive photoshop for Grimson...

Def need a nhl body or 2. Showcase the hell out of these kids and lets fix our holes so we can win another cup. Sooner the better. Don't want to be seeing trade deadline deals where new players have no time to find chemistry and adjust.
Shaw on the top line is further proof to me that they are just showcasing these guys for a potential trade--also it's more likely that Shaw plays with Bolland and Bickell anyway according to the line-up as it stands.
On another note, does anyone know what number Shaw will take?

lol Olsen?

So was Frolik though, they both played on that line. According to today though, it seems like Shaw will be getting the call on that top line. Sorry for the confusion.
Also, it doesn't look like Olsen is playing? Unless OD is playing too? I would assume they would call him up to play him, but who knows. I'll take a guess and put him and OD in there for now.

Olsen I figured was a call up at some point. Heard he has played pretty well in Rockford.
