Olesz Waived; Smith Called Up
Nov 16 2011 05:24 PM | R K in Transactions
Per McKenzie
EDITORS NOTE: Olesz competed in 6 games without a single point, a minus-1 rating, and six penalty minutes. In his NHL career, Rostislav posted 57 goals, 75 assists for 132 points and a minus-10 rating.
This move will free up over $6 million in cap space for the Blackhawks and also opens up a roster spot for the Blackhawks to call up Ben Smith, who has produced 10 points in nine games for the IceHogs.
Look for the Blackhawks to be big players at the deadline. Fire up the Xbox.

Hmm......... with all that extra cap room....................
Over 7 mil now.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........................
Parise anyone?
6 mil cap hit............
Parise anyone?
6 mil cap hit............
making room for Ben to come up.
I doubt anyone will claim his salary for a stop-gap 4th line producer. Let's hope he clears, and now the trade deadline (or before) may get interesting.
I did not see much from him in the games he played. with the limited ice time it was hard to get an impression but he was in my mind for the most part invisible.
wow, someone who had such a good camp, got a terrible shot on the team. Picking favorites again?
Olesz had a good camp?
I wonder why? No point having his salary eating capspace while he sits eating popcorn? Not that I minded him the few games he played, did not stand out or anything.

He was ok. Not sure 3.2 sitting in the press box, with really no place to play on teh team, is wise.
Kuc said just because he clears doesn't mean he'll be sent down. But like BHP said it sets them up for something at the TDL.
Then some dumb fuck tweeted Kuc about the Pens trading Crosby.
Some of our fans are just fucking idiots.
I will laugh if the kid puts up huge numbers in Rockford
I don't see the concern over Olesz.
He was the fallout from Campbell's bloated contract-- and Q + Stan probably didn't see him as the square peg fitting into the round hole.
Stashing him then playing him to be absent on the score sheet will probably turn off anyone interested in nabbing him at half-price.
If he clears, it's a win.

Some one better start the rumor thread once Olesz clears. 7 million will have a lot of people firing up their XBOX armchair GM status.

Brouwer got a fair shot on the Hawks though. Olesz didn't
im not even mad, i just think it sucks that he was given no shot at all. In the games he played, he had less ice time than John Scott. If the guy got even 5 games with decent ice time, I wouldn't even care. I just get mad when anybody gets written off without given a chance.
and yes, i realize (apon proof reading) that i said i wasn't mad, then let you know why i was mad. lets get over that one.
The Hawks are a great team... but 7 mil in cap space? Wow... the Hawks could become almost unbeatable. They could even go out and get two special teams specialists.
So we officially traded Campbell for cap room now....
And I do mean, "WE" because I"m obviously on the team.

basically, yes.
And basically with Campbells contract, that's all you were going to get. Unfortunately that's the way it was going to be. You can only have so many 7 million $$ contracts on a team.
This doesn't bother me at all. Olezs has no spot on this team other than the 4th line. He's not a top 6 NHL forward and never will be. Given a chance or not.
And as of right now this could be Stans turning point, that is what we do with this giant amount of cap space.

I highly doubt that this team will spend 6m out of 7m to put themselves right back into salary cap hell (unless it's an expiring contract).
