Blackhawks have assigned Smith to Rockford
Dec 12 2011 06:34 PM | IceHogsFan in Transactions
I find that interesting........
EDITORS NOTE: Smith, 23, scored 1 goal in 7 games along with a plus-minus rating of minus-7. In his NHL career Smith has 2 goals in 17 regular season games and 3 goals in 7 playoff games, one of them a game-winning goal. Ben has not notched a single assist in his career yet.
In Rockford, Smith has complied 6 goals and 4 assists in his short tenure there this season. It's unclear if he will be called up any time soon.

YOUR CALL
He didn't seem to get much of a chance.
He was put on a line with the teams "second best" center in Bolland and "I scored 20 goals 3 seasons ago" Frolik
god I hate Q
I thought he had enough of a chance. He didn't do anything with it, not sure Bickell is the answer either. It would be a great time to add Ruutu + Gleason!
Stalberg/Toews/Kane
Sharp/Kruger/Hossa
Ruutu/Bolland/Frolik
Carcillo/Mayers/Brunette
Hell yes

Awwww I'll miss Benny!
But i do understand.

About the same chance as iggy coming here does.
I did not think he showed much in his short stay. I expected a little more net presence and a little physicality. I saw neither in any noticeable abundance.
I expected more from him as well. Plus you have to see if Bickells benching has done anything to him.
I expected Smith to go back actually. Not surprised at all.

At least he played with an edge and won board battles. Im not shocked he is sent down either. But if its to try and spark offense on the 3rd line...i think there are bigger issues than smith.
I don't think he was an issue either, but at the same time he didn't really show enough to anyone to prove that he needs to stay.
IMO, I'm more concerned with Frolik right now more than anyone forward-wise, but with Bickell returning I suppose it will shift the concerning focus on him.

They can't bring Saad back right? Once he's back to Juniors he has to stay there the remainder of the season correct?
Nope, they can bring him back.
Really? Thought that once he played in the regular season, then was dropped back to Juniors, they couldn't bring him back up.

Not sure how the 3rd line needs a spark. How many points did Thornton and Marleu get last night.
Let's hope we see a fire under Bickell........

oh i agree. Defensively the line does its job so there is another reason why sending ben back is a little odd. Bens defensive game has been better than bickells. Im not going to read too much into bens plus minus as a lot of those minuses came from 2 games. The oilers and the flames games during the circus trip. No one came out of those games unscaved.
Anyways thats the only reason i can see ben being sent down..for offensive attempts on the 3rd. Bickells been sitting a while now. Hawks have been gaining points so i find the move a little odd at this time.
SMITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bolland never showed his worth in the playoffs last year. he's garbage.
Why was it bashing him in saying that Ben Smith got to play with him when he's the second best center on the Hawks?
Yeah exactly, just like how you commended Frolik for scoring 20 goals three years ago... it was a compliment!
Frolik did score 20g 3 years ago...
..and had a good playoff game last year
..and had a good playoff game last year
LOL... can't disagree with the facts!
Was it one good playoff game? I thought it was at least two.
For the record here, I've never been a huge fan of Frolik, I appreciate his effort (when it's there) but his production is frustrating. I'm also not a fan of ripping on players although I do catch myself doing it from time to time, unless you are Nick Boynton and totally deserve it, but either way he is one of the guys that absolutely needs to step it up (not that Jack Skille is fairing any better in FLA, surprise surprise).
On this team, there's really not much to complain about other than the effort night in and out. We have the talent, it's almost similar to the 2010 team but they have the same issue -- lack of 60 minute effort and on a nightly basis.

Stop moving him from line to line and Smith improves. Pickle, Frodo, Stahlberg, won't matter where you put them, they aren't very good.

Smith was on the 3rd line for the majority of his ice-time, more consistently than any other player in terms of ice-time with a particular line.
Stalberg has bounced around the most, which is why I blame Q for his recent production.

@billyfalconeee:@adamjahns Ben Smith assigned, I hope that doesn't mean Bickell comes back up?
