Blackhawks add former Kings assistant to coaching staff

“We are excited to add Jamie as assistant coach and certainly welcome the Stanley Cup pedigree he brings,” Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said in a press release. “He has over 15 years of NHL coaching experience and some obvious familiarity with our staff, having worked under Joel and Mike in St. Louis, which will help our staff and players with the transition.” - via Kuc
“Jamie will bring us all the great qualities you look for in a coach, most notably his work ethic and a winning resume,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “We have a great working relationship and I am confident he will be a great fit with us here in Chicago.” - via Kuc
Kompon's ties to Quenneville go back to St. Louis, where he served as a video coach. He will replace Mike Haviland who may have been considered a threat to Joel's job security after admitting there was dysfunction within the coaching staff. With this move Quenneville should be comfortable heading into next season with his own people on the bench.
Kompon was a major contributor to the Kings power-play which helped them win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. During the regular season, the Kings power-play ranked 17th overall at a 17.0% success rate, but dropped to 12.8% during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"So, we all know the media is usually lips to cheek with the organization. Yet, somehow the moment this was announced, immediately they all came out critical of the hire. With as much as it has seemed they have toed the corporate line in the past, this seemed out of place to me. I can only imagine that they've been given the go ahead to be critical of this hire. This is basically just setting them all up to fail and giving them all the excuses they need going forward to fire Q and keep their jobs if anything should go wrong. Within an hour of the announcement we had all basically come to the same conclusion that this is a Q hire, the guy is not good on the powerplay, and this puts all the pressure in the world on Q to succeed. I mean... this seems like a very precise succinct message that isn't even the hardest thing to pull off... RE: QO's."

@ChrisKucScouting report on Jamie Kompon from someone who would know: "utterly incompetent in handling power play."
#BlackhawksJesse Rogers
@ESPNChiHawksPretty sure Kompon had a big hand in poor Kings pp, especially before Sutter came on board
Evan Scussel
@EvanScusselSo with the power play sucking massively, the
#Blackhawks are inserting their#Kompon to try to stop the bleeding? Do I have that correct?Missak Tokhmanian
@followMissakJamie Kompon hired in chicago as an assistant coach, 1 piece of the LA Kings team that will not be missed. Nice guy but Powerplay struggled
I'm pretending they will. I don't want to think aboot another lockout at this point. With the contracts being handed oot this off season I'm not sure what the league has to bitch aboot. The problem appears to lie with the owners not the NHLPA.
Maybe he figures since it's going to be a long offseason and he may not have anything to cover he can throw rocks at them a bit again. will be interesting to see if he still has a press pass for the convention this weekend.
I posted an article from a Kings blogger just slamming him then Jahns tweeted the same exact article. Gauthier now this stooge, holy fuck! Rejoice!
GO CATS GO!!

@andystrickland: Jamie Kompon to host his Stanley Cup party in STL. Pics taken at Kirkwood ice rink for a min charge. More info laterHe's not a fan to say the least. And kompon was not renewed by the Kings. It's not like the Blackhawks poached him, dude was looking for work.

Yup that was the article I tweeted.
There shouldn't be a Team Bowman vs. Team Q, but the fact that it's bad enough to be characterized that way is not a good thing. Expect bad things this season.
I'll be interested to read what Sassone thinks aboot the move. Through the years, he's had the most honest coverage of the team and still does, IMO.
I wasn't kidding when I said that comment earlier.
... We're fucked.... without lube.
This is all this Asst. coaching firing and hiring drama this offseason has ever been. Thankfully for me, Q keeps tightening the slack on his own noose.
stans just too stupid to do his homework and i would assume daddy scotty probably is too busy watching matlock. reruns to put his two cents in. not that scotty two cents mean jack shit in 2012 anyways.
its stan. enough said. q probably manipulated stan but that just goes to show how weak our gm is.
