How will Joel Quenneville utilize his new defenseman?
The Chicago Blackhawks added two more defenseman this afternoon by signing Mike Kostka and Theo Peckham to one-year contracts.

Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Johnny Oduya, Nick Leddy, Michal Rozsival, and Sheldon Brookbank are already under contract, which means that there are nine defenseman signed for the 2013-2014 season. Going into the 2013 season, the Blackhawks had eight defenseman until Steve Montador was assigned to the Rockford IceHogs.

Kostka, 27, entered his first NHL season with the Toronto Maple Leafs last year after spending six seasons in the AHL. He notched eight points in 35 games and was a minus-7. He was 2nd on the Leafs in ice-time, only behind Dion Phaneuf, and averaged 22:04 TOI. He has experience on the powerplay, as well as the penalty-kill and ranked 4th on the Leafs in blocked shots. He also appeared in one playoff game but did not register a point and was a minus-3 on the night.

Peckham, 25, only appeared in four games last season, recording 14 hits and 6 PIM. Throughout his NHL career, he has notched 17 points, 388 PIM's, and a minus-15 rating in 160 regular-season games. He has no playoff experience.

Kostka and Peckham were both unrestricted free agents. One, or both, could head to the Rockford IceHogs depending on the contract details.

Drew Leblanc was also signed to a two-year deal.

Check back here soon for more details on their contracts.
